About Mike Moschetto

Hello! My name is Mike Moschetto. This is why I’m qualified to talk about music. In his natural habitat.

I just review these albums for fun. Yes, I do consider it “fun” to keep my writing skills up and critically listen to music even at the risk of enjoying it less. I feel that it makes me a better musician/songwriter as well as producer/engineer. I regard my own personal music taste very highly, as hypocritical and pretentious as I may come off sometimes. What you read here is only a small sampling of what I enjoy. If you want to know more about my listening habits (which you most likely don’t), you can stalk me on Last.fm. To be quite frank, I only have as much credibility as you think I have, so I might as well mention now that a lot of these posts are inherently biased. The good news though is that I don’t earn incentives, favors or any other “payola” to write up the artists I choose. I suppose if you have any records you want me to review, get in touch with me somehow. Just don’t bitch when I don’t like it, because believe me: I’ll find a way.

My favorite bands are Pink Floyd, Sigur Rós, Explosions In The Sky and Anathallo.

My favorite albums are Dark Side Of The Moon by Pink Floyd, ( ) by Sigur Rós, Floating World by Anathallo and Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas To Heaven by Godspeed You! Black Emperor.

My favorite songs are “Your Hand In Mine” by Explosions In The Sky, “Echoes” by Pink Floyd and “Storm” by Godspeed You! Black Emperor.

I am a recent graduate of Emerson College in Boston, MA, where I majored in audio production and minored in entrepreneurship and music appreciation.

I’ve done a lot of work with WERS 88.9 FM in Boston – I recently left my cushy management position as Production Director to pursue music production and engineering full-time. In fact, I’m still an assistant engineer in the Live Mix department, where I’ve worked with high-profile artists such as Rusted Root, Peter Bjorn & John and Mike Jones. I also write about albums and concerts for WERS.org, where my review of Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix is currently the most-viewed on the website. (Modesty? No thanks.)

I actively play guitar, bass and drums. I dabble with vocals, keys and whatever else I can get my hands on.

I write and record instrumental music under the name il presidente. I release it all for free download here.

I played in an indie/pop/folk band called Ferris Wheel. Since that fell apart, I joined an emo/post-rock/shoegaze band called White Woods.

I also write and record guitar/drums/bass/noise for a post-hardcore studio project called Cowboys Vs. Bears. DB of White Woods shouts over it.

I used to play drums (followed by guitar) in a pop-punk/rock band called Brunswick.

I’ve produced, engineered and/or mixed a great deal of fabulous recordings with some extremely talented musicians and dear friends; a reasonably-detailed discography is available at my MySpace.

And frankly, I think Radiohead sucks.
